It happens to me as well, time to time. Basically, you can’t enter into the game. But it works for me after a few tries. Try restart the game. Or check if Steam wants to update, or even close it and open the game again. If you play on pc.
I piay on Xbox so my answers are general, but it might be time to have your pc serviced.

PC’s and laptops need software maintenance about ever 3 years or so. Temporary files and cookies removed, registers reordered, vireos removed, drivers updated, etc. I use a local store that has a tech section. who guarantees fixing problems and won’t charge me if the fix is simple.
